FAQ

When is your next show?

I post the dates of the shows on the home page. That way the list is up-to-date.

Some of the images look like watercolors and some like photographs, how is this done?

First I take a photograph of a scene that has caught my eye. In my minds eye I see an image that takes the photograph and presents it in a more dramatic or beautiful way. I use digtal tools such as brushes, dodge, burn, layers, masks, contrast, replace color, unsharp mask.... in short most of the tools available in Photoshop CS.

Where do you take your pictures?

Some are taken where I live in North Carolina. Others are taken while traveling. You will see images from Iceland,Great Britian, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Bonnaire, Brazil, Galapagos Islands, Equador, Chilie, Argentina, China, Costa Rica, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, Florida,... thats all I can remember right now. I am currently working on Waterfall, Mountain and Forest images.

How long have you been doing this?

Like many people who love photography, I have had a camera handy and taken photographs all my life. After retiring in 2000, and the advent of digital cameras and digital tools, I am now able to devote full time to my artwork.

What classes did you take?

I have taken basic photography classes ( such as Nikon school), and basic software classes ( such as Photoshop). Like an artist with a tube of paint and a brush, I use these tools in my own way to create artwork that reflects the vision that I have for how the image should be presented. I don't have a standard formula for all images, rather I do what it seems needs to be done on each one.

Do you work in other media?

Yes, I like to use colored pencils, pastels, watercolors and acrylics. Generally art shows only allow an artist to exhibit in one media at a time. My greatest body of work is in the digital media. I have found that I enjoy the challenge of painting on a wood frame to match the photograph on canvas. I love to mix colors and this gives me the chance to find the colors in the photographs and recreate them on the wood frame.

Do you do special orders or commissions?

I do when I can. For example I was able to supply a frigate bird, a forest and Queen Anne's Lace, but not a sloth (yet). I have also added my own artist interpretation to photos of homes, relatives and pets when requested.
